This type of therapy lasts 8 or 12 sessions, and sessions are structured for your individual needs. We require a minimum of an 8-week commitment to develop a relationship with your horse and treatment team, along with setting appropriate goals to work towards. We structure the equine services to be short term therapy with a specific goal or two in mind; however, if you notice you are benefiting and would like to continue past the number of sessions established, you are more than welcome to.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect with EAP?

Currently our program works with horses on the ground (not riding), where we develop awareness of the pressure (energy) we give when we are asking for connection in a relationship. We explore what is internally happening for us as we are attempting to make connections, and learn how to experience our emotions to respond in the way that best aligns with the person we want to be. Our training in Natural Lifemanship (NL) focuses on the connection, body awareness, emotional regulation and developing healthy relationships.

I don’t have horse experience, do I need it?

No, You do not need to have previous horse experience to participate in equine assisted therapy. We will support you in understanding safe behavior around horses.

Will I be riding a horse?

At this time, we are not offering rhythmic riding in our equine assisted therapy services; however, we plan on incorporating this upon receiving additional rhythmic riding training.

Who can benefit from equine assisted psychotherapy (EAP)?

Many people can benefit from equine assisted therapy including children, adolescents, families, individuals and couples. People with mental health challenges (depression, anxiety, trauma/PTSD, grief and loss, life transitions, etc.) and people from different backgrounds (LGBTQ+, religious/spiritual backgrounds, disabilities, ethnicities, cultures, etc.) can benefit from equine therapy.

How long will I be in therapy with the horses?

We ask for a minimum of an 8-week commitment to have time to develop a relationship with your horse and treatment team, including developing goals. We structure the equine services to be short term therapy with a specific goal or two in mind; however, if you notice you are benefiting and would like to continue past the number of sessions established, you are more than welcome to.
